New Book Explores Borges and 'El Eternauta' Connection

Researcher Martín Hadis has presented a new book that offers a new reading of the comic 'El Eternauta,' exploring the intellectual connections between its author, Héctor Germán Oesterheld, and writer Jorge Luis Borges.

The work posits that the celebrated comic possesses philosophical and literary dimensions that had previously gone unnoticed. According to Hadis, Oesterheld was not only a key scriptwriter in graphic narrative but also an intellectual with extensive knowledge. Holding a doctorate in Natural Sciences, he combined this expertise with autodidactic knowledge of literatures, mythologies, and religions.

On Monday, March 30th, at 7:00 PM, the official book launch will take place at the National Library, located at Agüero 2502. Admission is free. The author will engage in a conversation with the director of the National Library's Comic Center, a literature professor, an editor and culture journalist, and a science fiction expert, who will participate virtually.

During the event, images, documents, and audiovisual materials will be projected to accompany the author's presentation. Hadis emphasizes his connection with Borges, whom he describes as a decisive influence. The book suggests that the classic comic can be read as a work of high literature, rooted in the classical Greek tradition and permeated by elements present in Borges' work. It also claims that the two authors met and developed a personal relationship, and that the comic even left its mark on Borges' subsequent writing.

Dr. Martín Hadis holds a Ph.D. in Humanities from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and has an international academic background that includes studies at MIT, the University of North Texas, and Harvard University.
